Reading Poetry
If you are new to poetry reading be careful not to read too many poems at once. Try doing this and you will find out what I mean. Some poems rhyme, others are in free verse. Give the latter a go - you will be pleasantly surprised. The Nation’s Favourite Poems’ * as a starting point would be a good choice. You will come across old favourites and I dare you not to find a poem from your schooldays!
Poets like challenging their readers. Some poems you need to read several times before you understand them. Other poems you can read quickly and know what the poet means - or can you?
